Definition of Beautiful

There is really no true definition of beauty. Beauty truly is in the eyes of the beholder. It is the distorted concept of beauty that floods our airwaves and magazines that truly facilitate the decline of self esteem for people. Yes the constant perpetuation of a concept that true beauty is an emaciated woman walking down a runway complete with wigs and false eye lashes shows our youth (especially our youth) that beauty is based upon false perceptions.

I love the Dove commercials to help our youth boost their self esteem, however they are still overshadowed by the endless commercials and ads of rail thin models and reality tv shows where model agencies still refuse to work with plus sized models because they don't have the look. Yes Janice Dickenson's reality tv show had an episode where she made two plus sized models leave because in her words, "You are not attractive and not what I want to work with." Look at Janice and you can see where she had her breasts augmented and her lips look like you can peel them off, but they are not attractive....whew! Americans still have a distorted view of what is truly beautiful.

In other countries beauty is not defined by super slim waists and faces painted with makeup. Our youth, and even adults need to redefine what is truly beautiful to them and embrace it. Love your thighs, love your belly, just love yourselves. There you will find true beauty. Loving yourself, your beauty will radiate and that is better than anything a magazine could dictate!
