Sigh For Humanity

Sitting in my usual seat on the bus this morning on my way to work, I happen to notice a man fidgeting greatly in his chair. After careful observation I noticed his clothes were worn and tattered, the undershirt shredded under his clothing and dirt was literally caked on to all parts of his exposed skin. People turned their noses up at him, got up and moved to different sections of the bus...and I just watched him...partly because he was shivering like crazy, and at that moment in time I wanted to give him my clothes (shirt, coat) so that he could be warm (but I realized that was all I was wearing and couldn't offer them so freely)....He kept watching other people as he tried to stuff his tattered shirt under his jersey....still shivering....I noticed that others were literally disgusted that this man got on the bus, and in that instant, I turned my head and my tears flowed....crying for the injustices of humanity upon humanity....Is this how we act when we see someone in need? Disgust, anger, annoyance?

He looked over at me and through my tears I smiled at him. He smiled back and said, "Thank you." Silent appreciation, acknowledgement we shared. Human to human. This man saw the angry stares at him and finally got up and moved to the back of the bus to remain "hidden," incognito....and he sat his head down, still stuffing his tattered shirt under his jersey....and looking to see if anyone noticed him...

People wake up! This man could have been you, or me....he could have been your best friend...or mine for that matter, but how we treat others in a time of need is important. Snubbing someone because they are "different" or dirty or smelly, really doesn't help the situation...now does it? Are we as a race of humans so insensitive to the needs of others that we would rather snuff out than help? We would rather ignore the problem than give...small gestures could mean the world to another person...like giving someone their favorite apple cereal bars in the morning or a cup of coffee with a smile...small talk...there is a lot that can be learned through each other....

We are divine beings. We are here to create, and to learn from those experiences and grow. Every person we encounter is an extension of ourselves (like it or not) I am you, you are me, we are we...once we acknowledge the fact that the differences we share we can collectively bring together as a whole, we can then achieve divine Love, infinite happiness, peace and joy...
The pain and suffering inflicted upon our brothers and sisters is a atrocity...when we hurt one another, we are only hurting ourselves...this negativity projected onto the world, manifesting into a greater evil....

Everyone was their usual jovial selves this morning on the bus....conversations on every topic imaginable....and once the bus driver picked up this man, the entire bus grew silent as people watched him take a seat on the bus....prior to the man entering the bus, there were even conversations about the cruelties of war, and the injustices of humanity...
and yet this man was literally ostracized on the bus for being homeless, dirty and cold...

Wake up!
